i just re-read Professor Yunus' book, "Creating a World Without
Poverty" - he explains it best, in the most comprehensive, reasonable,
rational and logical way. put simply: charitable giving by companies
*stops* when the company is under financial pressure. when it comes
to it, companies are only answerable to one bottom line: profit.

now, that court may actually have been overstepping its bounds by
making the declaration that they did. remember: Directors can be
struck off for *not* enacting the Articles of Incorporation. they can
be sued by the Shareholders for not enacting the Articles of
Incorporation. if the Directors do not behave in a way which
prioritises their LEGAL obligations to follow the Articles of
Incorporation (which are usually boiler-plate-written to say "profit
is the goal"), they can end up with a criminal record! it's real
simple!

... yeah. read Professor Yunus' book. it's an amazing story in its own right.
