Has anyone on the foundation side the desire to maybe reach out to an
organization like Quanta and say... hey, we'd like to try our hand at
building an open source lights out firmware unit for your servers.
IPMI as a standard is used by pretty much all of IT. But even though most
servers have IPMI , the firmware supporting it tends to be horrendously
buggy.
It's a great target for industry standardization on an open source hardware
design.
And I cannot think of a reason a company like quanta wouldn't want to let
that happen. And if it did happen there, it could happen everywhere. And
it's win win for server vendors as they can stop paying to build or buy
shitty lights out hardware and software and use a free open source design.
Just a thought.
