Why both a mailing list and video chat? How about email only? Cuts
participation cost by like 50% at least, although arguably email is way
faster than serial video communication. Ever since the OpenWorm group moved
to Google Hangouts their participation plummeted- they had a really active
IRC channel but they moved off of that. Instead of receiving asynchronous
readable updates, their members had to then watch very long low-bandwidth
videos, which even fewer individuals have time for. There's also a
(comparatively!) large community in for example #brlcad on irc.freenode.net
(25/day) that works on CSG, and #openscad (80/day) as well. But for solid
modeling I usually point others to http://solvespace.com/ or
https://github.com/pboyer/verb rather than openscad these days..
