[Discuss] network centeric warfare and open source development

Just had another thought, thinking about how this applied my own military
career.  Perhaps the centralized / decentralized paradigms do have a place
in military circles.  There are groups which operate semiautonomously,
given general orders and specific mission orders to follow.  These would
seem to have a striking parallel to the decentralized, purely open
paradigm, while main line military members would tend to follow the
centralized management approach.  This can also be seen in some of the
differences between a "task force" and a "committee" in an civilian
organization.  The interesting part is how the leadership deals with both
types of units where they intersect.  Perhaps some of the answers may be
found in understanding the mid to high level command of special ops groups.
