[Discuss] Who is the OSHWA, members and membership,

Greetings,

I would like to spur a discussion on both the technicalities and merits 
of joining the Open Source Hardware Association.   

For the technical 
side, how does one, or how is it envisioned that one join the association? 

On the side of merits, what is the point(s) of joining the association.  What does the association provide that would be of use to a member?  Does it promote projects? Does it provide a place or mechanism to collaborate?
